reading that hemi thing in the other thread got me asking

whats the difference between an inline engine and a V ?

Inline engine all cylinders are in one row with a V engine (say V6) they are lined up in a V formation with three cylinders on each side of the block.

on that inline four diagram, can't the cylinder heads move in different patterns than the 1 & 4 cylinders and the 2 & 3 cylinders going at the same time?

I am not sure but I think there are those that fire 1,3 and 2,4 but I am not real positive on that.
