Decisions, decisions...
Alright guys here it is...my decision.
I'm going to college in the fall, and I'm trying to decide what to do with my car.
Swap vs. Street Bike
I have always wanted a swap, but after a party I threw and got busted for(hundred ppl, parents house, lots and lots of alchohol), plans kinda stopped. Have to wait till I'm 18. And I will be in the fall. So I was planning on saving/buying/installing the swap this summer (B18 or B16, semi built, turbo in the future). But recently I have become VERY interested in bikes. I have been thinking a lot about getting one. But since I'm not rich I have to choose. I have been looking at a used CBR600RR ( yay for Honda ) or mabye an older R1. The swap and the bikes run around the same price so it's a big decision for me.
I don't know what to do. I think the bike would be a hell of a lot of fun, but the insurance along with the insurance for my car might be too much. The swap would also kick ass and would be fun. But might not be as reliable. The bike also gets kick-ass gas mileage. BUT I think I would wait till summer 2005 to get the bike since I'll be 18 and wont have to take classes. The swap would kick ass and def give me bragging rights with the guys. I duno what to do. I have been wanting the swap forever, but the call of the open road on a quick and nimble 2-wheeler sounds very tempting....
PLEASE HELP!!!!!

You don't have enough experience to handle an R1, new or old. Try an R6, but even then thats pretty risky.
If you HAVE to do one of those two, I'd say save for a swap...but as a college student I could think of about a billion better things to do with your money than buying an engine.

The insurance on a nice street bike will cost you a pretty penny, especially since youre ~18. Another factor, tho not as significant, is that street bikes are a fair weather only vehicle, so id be kinda useless in the rain unless you dont mind getting wet. I also have this fear of motorcycles that stems back from when i flipped my cuz's a few years back, so i have negative feelings against them; never again will i ever get on a bike. So... if it were me, id totally get the swap over the bike/
I say get neither.
You will be much more financially well off if you don't drop thousands of dollars on something like a bike or a swap. College is the lean years, and aside from booze, rent, food and maybe the occassional gadget you don't want to be spending too much money.
It will be amazingly helpful when you get out of school to have a few thousand in the bank to start off with so you're not scraping the bottom of the barrel while looking for a job. Then when you're gainfully employed you can worry about things like swaps or bikes.

I have to agree with MrFatBooty, I would save my money. You will be spending on a lot of things (I spent almost $500 in textbooks alone per semester my first year of college). You'll probably also want to be able to eat out, go out, and have some fun, and if you pick up a lady friend you'll be spending even more money. I had about $2000 of spending money a year from summer work, and that was pretty much gone at the end of the year.
If you want to spend the money, I would get a swap. You will have problems trying to park two vehicles on or close to campus (ie parking passes), and a car is definitely more practical than a bike, so at least you can have a quick car to run around campus with.
