i was riding in the back of my friends truck, with a couple other friends, and i was sittin all the way in the back against the tailgate. my boy was sittin against the cab, and he kept sprayin people as we went by. I see us about to turn right, and there's two people standing at the corner. I yelled "Nooooo!" but it was too late. As we went around the corner, he sprayed, and it all went directly in my face. The rest of the ride home, I spent riding with my face covered in my shirt, my eyes watering like faucets, and my entire face felt on fire. It went away in about 25-30 minutes.....

Once i could open my eyes again, he got tackled into the bushes. I shoulda done alot worse though....:madfawk: pepperspray

They do it to show you how it feels, so you don't mess up your use of force procedures just because you think "it's only pepper spray" (its in a Use of Force 8 hour block [class] )

The idea is, if you know how crappy this stuff is; you wont use it unless you have to, on a civilian or another officer if it ever came to that. (Cant imagine it would)

The thinking is, that most people take Pepper Spray or more specifically any Tri-Blend O.C spray as something Non-Lethal and therefor adequate to use in a lot of situations.

They want to try to show that it is NOT something like a Baton or ASP that should be and is more readily used on the common suspect, to gain compliance.

Come on, use common sense.

I never said bash their skull either.

The instructors mean, in general; if you're trying to get someone to put their hands behind they're back and they're not complying, but don't pose a severe or direct threat to you yet; it would be more suitable to use some defensive tactics with your hands, baton, asp, or flashlight to get them to submit; rather than using Pepper Spray for something of that nature.

When it comes down to a fight, a serious one where your life is in direct danger, there are tactics and there is training, but every single one of my instructors ends his instruction with "Do whatever it takes to win the fight and walk away alive. My instruction is just here as a guideline."

So in those cases, use what you've got, and use it anyway you deem necessary. Afterall, that is a life/death situation (if it occurs)
