I want a new laptop...
Under 1K for a decent laptop is gonna be a tough one, but im pretty sure that the ibooks start for somewhere around $900, and performance wise, thats the best youre going to get for a laptop is an ibook.
i just financed a dell inspiron celeron 2.4ghz 15" with cdrw/dvd combo, total was barely over 1k...
imma fix the inverter on my current dell and sell it for around 300-350-ish..
its a dell latitude 650mhz p3 256rm 14.1" if anybody's interested

want to sell it?
specs?
how much?
Well I guess it's too late to mention this since you already bought something, but oh well.
If you want to get any sort of decent battery life out of any PC laptop, you need to get one with a Celeron-M, Pentium-M, or one of the several mobile variants of the Athlon.
The regular Celeron and Pentium 4 systems out there get maybe 2 hours of battery life tops, and their heavy power consumption makes the batteries lose their ability to hold a charge rather quickly.
I know this, because I have one.
Next time around I'll get something with an actual mobile processor.
