Nope piston rings were the beginning in 1928 he opened a branch of the Art Shokai Company in Hamamatsu.
Did you know he was also kicked out of college for not taking exams and his proffessor later said the Soichiro Honda was one of his "biggest educational failures"?

In 1946 Honda opened the Yamashita factory where he began production of "auxiliary bicycle engines" after founding the Honda Technical research Institute.

In 1948 Soichiro Honda converts the Honda Technical Research Institute into a corporation with a capitol of 1 million yen and renames it Honda Motor Co., Ltd.
