Default Suggest a commuter car... ?

My dreams of getting a sports car later on, have diminished. I've decided to just settle for a small car to use for my commute to school and work and if I need to go somewhere that has 'hard to find parking'. I really don't want anything from Honda(i.e. rsx, civic) anymore. Not that I don't like them but I just don't want another Honda since I already have a Honda car and motorcycle. My folks suggested a corolla. I'm really considering the Mazda 3. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Oh yeah, I'll be purchasing new and it doesn't matter if it's a 2 or 4 door. I plan to get the car in 2005 or early 2006 since by that time, all my stupid debt should be gone. h:

Another car I'm really diggin' is the Mazda 6 V6 but yeah, that doesn't fall under this category. I know if I go to the Mazda dealer to check out the 3, I'll be tempted to get the 6. h:

I suggest the mazda 3 sedan. I think its much more stylish/sporty/fun than a Corolla, but probably wont get as good of gas mileage.

mazda 3 is a good corolla alternative. Much nicer, more fun, IMO. Personally, if I were in the market for a small "commuter car," I'd go hybrid. Either the civic hybrid or prius... If all you want out of it is reliable, economical transportation, you might as well be environmentally responsible too.

:edit: plus, here in CO, you get a major tax deduction for driving an "alternative fuel" car.

Corolla is a great commuter car. The 3 is also a really nice car but a bit more money. Whats your price range?

Can't go wrong with a corolla, especially when its time to sell it. (great resale value)

I totally forgot about pricing...

It would be nice if I can stay under 20k out the door . A hybrid would be nice but I doubt I can get one for under 20k. Btw: I think the invoice price for the civic hybrid is a little over 18k including the destination charge and the prius is like almost 19k including destination?
