I know I'm going to get bashed, but you wouldn't have popup problems or browser problems if you did your browsing inside the America Online client software.

It's a very safe and controlled environment that's used by a surprising number of experienced Internet users.

There are at least some versions of Opera that are freeware.

It's a lightweight, simple browser that's lovely in its simplicity.

well i havent had aol in years so i cant say how it is now. but back in the day (like before 1998) the aol browser SUCKED, as did anything else associated with aol.

anyways, im a netscape man myself. to be honest though, both browsers have problems from time to time, so i have shortcuts to both so when one screws up i just switch to the other. seems like the best system for me.

I use internet explorer...
Freeware. But has an add banner at top right corner, its small and never in my way. If you pay for it, the banner goes away. I believe pirated versions can be found with hzx0red keys.

Just found out it has a built in translator too.

I use Mozilla FireFox. It has tabbed browsing, built in popup blocker, yadda yadda yadda. No banner ads like Opera and it's free.

There are a few assorted things that IE handles better so I use that when necessary.

opera can have text ads by google, instead of banner ads.

firefox and opera are both pretty good, and both blow the shit out of IE. i'm way more used to opera's mouse gestures, and i always thought that mozilla and all it's different variants were a little sluggish. never quite up to par with IE, opera, or even netscape 4 in terms of smoothness and responsiveness.

IE, running through a tranparent squid proxy. No popups, ever.

On my OBSD desktop I use Dillo. :chuckles:

:werd: I rarely use IE for anything. FireFox 0.8 is all I use, on my XP or Fedora Core 1 Linux. Both use FireFox great. Haven't seen a "popup" in well over a year and a half.
