the car was bunk
there was a dent on the rear panel under the trunk, and a cracked taillight. the paint was oxidized also. both front tires were unevenly worn and bald.
mechanically, it had a rough idle and the transmission jerked when shifting to drive. the steering wheel was off center and the car pulled to the right (explains the wear on the front tires).
the owner (man in his late 40s) doesn't know anything about cars or maintenance, so he couldn't answer any of my questions. he didn't even know if the timing belt and water pump were replaced, or when the last time the brakes were replaced. his answer was "i have a lot of service records, all i know is the dealer fixes it." i doubt this guy brought it in for tuneups, scheduled maintenance, or even oil changes.
oh well, the search continues!
