Hungry Central user here. Cut the damn thing out yourself. I almost lost my toe becuase of one. I blead and hurt for nine months straight everyday. I finally got drunk, then pissed off, and then self surgery. Used an exacto knife (better than a scalpel), some acetone (actually fingernail polish remover), a razor blade (box cutter type), and the end of a PCI card out of my computer (an old modem). No freaking joking man, it solved the problem. Just can't be scared and you gotta be drunk and pissed off.

see on the side of a nail where the skin meets the side of the nail? basically, instead of growing straight out, the nail grows into the skin, digging into it. You don't really see it, all you see is the swollen skin around it. It gets red and puffy, and eventually bleeds/pusses if you let it get out of hand.

cut your toenails straight, rather than following the curve of the nail. A lot of it has to do with genetics and how tight your shoes are. Athletes are very prone to them as well. Most marathon runners end up having their big toe nails fall completely off.
