Default Garage door torsion spring question...

My garage door originally only has one torsion spring but it snapped recently. Is there any advantage to installing 2 torsion springs?

Depends on what kind of door you have. (ie size and material) Are you using an opener? The other spring will help you with the dead lift portion of opening, but not much else.

Not even extend the usable life of the spring just a "little" bit??? Or maybe help extend the life of garage opener motor by making the door a "bit" more lighter to pull?

It probably will. You would put less tension on two springs than you would on one. The two springs would work together to help lift the door.

I think if it's designed for 1 spring, that's all it needs. Once properly tensioned, it's all the help it needs. The motor in mine failed once and I could use one hand to raise/lower the door.

Be careful if you try to fix it yourself. That spring is under a lot of tension and really hurt you if it gets loose when tightening. Our spring broke a month or so ago (first time in about 15 years) and the guy actually clamped it with a wire clamp. It held for a couple of weeks while the new spring came in.
