A real story about how I left religion, God and what not behind me.
My brother and I have asthma and some "pious" woman told my mom way back around 86 or so that it was because we were possessed by the devil. She said she could perfom something that would take the evil away and get rid of the asthma. I love my mom but she is a little too religious for my liking, so anyway she agreed despite my father a doctor telling her this was a hunk of crap.
Pious woman came over... my brother being older was first... dumped stuff and set him on fire. My brother ended up in ER half dead... cops were called and the woman arrested... me I ran for dear life and called my dad who was on call that day. We still have asthma, my brother has a huge scar on his back, my mom now realizes that certain things cannot be changed, to me God is a figment of human imagination.

I think the idea that genesis was just an anecdote for how things really happened is a far more reasonable concept. Throw in a couple thousand years of the story being passed down as oral tradition amongst the nomadic Jews and you have a holy game of telephone.

And.. if anyone's gonna say "There was light" then.. here's my response in advance:
So.. this vast nightlight god had kept those things living during the 7 days.. which was originally believed to be JUST REALLY 7 days.. not millions of years... and kept those things created on the third day alive until the fourth day when he created the sun... which.. later on.. it was believed that it was really a vast expanse of time between those days.

whats so hard to believe about plants living a million years with a nightlight?
