Default firewall.

i recently got a linksys router, which has a built in firewall. is there any way to disable this firewall? I can't directly connect with anyone on aim.

I dont think you can disable it,but you can call up Linksys just to verify. Another way of trying it, is if you just open every port.

Port forwarding.
Find out which port AIM uses, and set the router to allow that port to open.\
on my router, it's under Applications and Gaming, Port Range Forwarding (Latest firmware)

Go to your firewall settings and add your computers IP to the DMZ and you will be fine. Only reason I even have a forewall is because my Xbox has to have it for me to access it from my computers for file maintenence

:werd: DMZ is the best way to do it if you wanna get rid of your firewall.


I have on my router, an Xsense, set up to recognize certain ports as OK requests... things like the ports that AIM, Quicktime, and BitTorrent use. Not as easy, but more secure.

i just changed the firewall settings in AIM and that lets me connect to most everyone.

it be under prefs > direct IM > firewall > outgoing

but i think the person you connecting to also has to set outgoing in prefs.
