NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cingular Wireless on Tuesday won an auction for smaller rival AT&T Wireless Services Inc. (NYSE:AWE - news) with a $41 billion offer that edged out Britain's Vodafone Group Plc and secured its future as the largest wireless carrier in the United States.

I was talking to tony about this last night. He read that cingular put in a bid of 38b? to match vodaphone. I told him at&T wont sell for under $40B.

Damn.. i never knew Cingular was SBC. I hate ATT's service in my area... YAY :D Funny thing is they say they are changing ATT wireless's name to cingular.. so... what happens to the little icon on my telephone D:
