are you sure it was frequency you can change not channel. you shouldn't be able to change the frequency.

ya but in this day and age you'd think that wouldn't be an issue?? my dad's laptop has 0 problems at all...

Do you have any sort of encryption on the router, or restrictions on the hardware addresses that can access it? Also, what does the computer say when you run ipconfig?

im starting to hate using the wireless card on my laptop. the connection is never stable, which keeps kicking me off the company's VPN. lately i just run a long ass cat5 cable.

i do have encryption on the hub yes

but this stupid ass program isn't even allowing me to look at the encryption ya know?

with my old trendnet (which isnt supported by netgear) i could go in and totally setup the connection this thing is trying to do VPN and failing.

rich i had the same problem with my dad's laptop... i had to totally blast his VPN and start over with it

disable encryption then try it

just setup mac filtering and you're fine, you dont really need encryption unless youre THAT worried about security.

Same thing I was going to post...

I assume this is 802.11b? or g? which channel are you using? there are only 3 that don't overlap so I'd try one of those three (1, 6 and 11 IIRC).

The other thing I would recommend is that you make sure you have the latest drivers for the card on the PC (desktop). The final version of the 802.11g protocol weren't finalized until this last summer. I saw a similar behavior on my laptop when I tried to connect to my access point (which had the "final" protocol version). Updating the driver on the card fixed this.

Give it a try, go an pull down the latest drivers from the Netgear site and install them on your PC.
