when i had my wisdom teeth out, it was a horrific experience -- i think i went about 2 weeks without eating anything. i got reeeally skinny that summer.

in high school, i had an eating disorder and went about 6 months without eating a meal. just an apple or piece of bread here and there.

Not unless your body gets used to it. I had a hard teenage years... I ate when I had money from the people I was protecting or when someone got extra lunch and gave me some. Thats why until I started college I weighed a measly 140lb for a 6' plus guy.

I hate to say it, but the longest I've gone without food is amazingly enough for the same reason as the resident bible thumper of the minute. Of course it was for a particular holiday where most every Jewish person does it (Yom Kippur), and it was only for one day. It's a yearly thing and all it really means is we eat a real big dinner before the sun goes down the night before hand, skip breakfast and lunch and then eat another real big dinner which is generally made into a nice happy gathering with bagels and lox and all that other Jewish food.

I'm curious about the wisdom teeth people. You guys didn't eat for weeks? I got all four wisdom teeth pulled at the same time and all four were impacted so my jaws got tore up from having those suckers yanked. I slept most of the day they were pulled and the day after but even then I made myself milkshakes while I was awake.

I had a really terrible experience with my wisdom teeth. Truly. They were not only huge and impacted, but the roots were wrapping themselves around my jawbone, so the teeth had to be broken into pieces to be taken out. The surgery lasted 3 hours. My face was so incredibly swollen and black and blue, I was on steroids for 2 weeks. I lived on vicoden for almost 3 weeks, the pain was so bad and constant, and I normally have a pretty high pain threshhold. I couldn't even bear the thought of eating for at least 2 weeks, and it was almost 3 weeks post-surgery before I ate an actual meal. Every surgery experience is different. :dunno:

to all the people saying that they did not eat for weeks.. are you talking about just drinking water? or fluids, soft foods, etc. (i.e. milkshakes, yogurt, ice cream...)? i consider drinking just water to be not eating.

and i find it hard to believe that anyone could go on water alone for several weeks. especially since we'd only last maybe 2 months on such a diet.. but i am a skeptic. :a:
