Default gas vs pep

i've kinda noticed, i'm able to drive my car with more "gusto" when my gas tank is less than half empty. ie flying around corners with some added rev matching downshifts. less boggie. is that just because gas is weighing down my car? or is that some sort of air / gas mixture dealy that i should look at replacing?

well gasoline weights ~5lbs a gallon. so on a full tank, a small - midsize honda is carrying an "extra" ~60-75lbs.

and weight right on top of the rear wheels makes a huge difference on a fwd. it hurts your straightline acceleration, and causes understeer.
