It doesn't say what chipset they're using for the FW-IDE bridge, which might mean questionable transfer rates for DV usage...

You really want at least an Oxford911 chipset when handling DV...

Meh whatever I am just trying it out and seeing how it goes with transfer rate and if there is any degradation...if there is then I will use it for MP3 backup and movie files etc.

I have over 2,000 gigs of drives I just don't use them so now I can at least use some of that space conveniently

I use Firewire HDs for all my video content I work on. It works a tad bit slower than when I do it straight to my HD, but it is usually not a pain to deal with. well worth it when most of my editing is now being done on a Powerbook G4 anywhere I want, rather than my G4 tower at home

Yeah I use my laptop exclusively anymore because I like to move to other locations and work...keeps me thinking and entertained that way.

I am basically using it only as a storage device and as I need the video files I will transfer it over to the laptops HD rather than trying to work off the firewire setup.

the max theoretical transfer rate of ieee-1394 is 50MB/s which is 400Mb/s.
so all you need is an ATA-66hdd. which btw is what you find in an external 1394 hdd
