New Acura / Honda oil filters?

3 Attachment(s)
so i went down to the dealership to grab some oil filters. i went to the shelf and couldnt find the one i normally used. so i asked the guy and he pointed me to a shelf full of smaller "newer" filters. i was like  he explained to me that honda is making more "universal" filters or something like that. so then i asked him since the filters were so much smaller, would it increase the oil pressure too much. he said, no...and said something about higher oil pressure might be good anyway.

me being a lil confused because i know jack about oil pressure...i bought 2 of them. :oh:

i just wanted some feedback from you guys. i figure that honda wouldnt produce something that would fuk my engine up so...:dunno: i noticed the filter is made by honeywell and is from canada.

here are some pics next to a traditional sized school ID.

The new ones are made by Fram. Fram is a steaming piece of shit that I would not put on my car. The solution? The Toyo Roki S2000 oil filter, aka the HAMP...

FourthGenHatch 01-28-2004 04:49 PM

The old Honda filters were made by Filtech and were good filters.

:werd: which confuses me as to why Honda moved to Fram here in the states...

As long as they keep supplying the 15400-PCX-004 filters, I'll be happy...

b00gers 01-28-2004 04:57 PM

yea how much are the 15400-PCX-004 filters? these were $4.99 each :oh:

FourthGenHatch 01-28-2004 04:58 PM

My S2000/HAMP was about $8.

dubcac 01-28-2004 05:00 PM

My new/small filter didn't say Fram on it anywhere...I don't recall the name that was on it, but it wasn't Fram.

Anyways, it's the same filter used on the K-series, so they are getting rid of the old filters. Last time I changed my oil, it didn't leak any out all over the header and axle like with the old filter.

RB 01-28-2004 05:02 PM

Fram?!! :eek3: :ugh:

b00gers 01-28-2004 05:05 PM

the new small filters say "honeywell"

I think honeywell is the parent company of fram...

Hondaman 01-28-2004 05:09 PM

It doesn't matter who makes them. They are still made to Honda specs. Personally I use a Napa Gold or Wix filter.

Oil Filters

I found this old topic while doing a search and I wanted to add something. The Newwer smaller filters are still made by Filtec and are part # 15400-PLM-A01. The other ones are made by Fram/Honeywell and are # 15400-PLM-A02.

Sorry to bring this up, but I've only done two oil changes so far to the car, and I just noticed it yesterday the OEM filter was made by fram...freakin pissed me off, screw that!!! I'm gonna have to find an amsoil filter then.

dubcac 10-12-2004 06:36 PM

I'm gonna start using k&n.

airon 10-12-2004 07:43 PM

WideBodyEK 10-12-2004 08:17 PM

if you guys are looking for a cheap but really good oil filter,..locate some purolators,..good shit for the price

i personally use mobil 1 but if my funds wouldnt allow me to use mobil 1 than i would use purolator pure1s

S2Kev 10-12-2004 08:30 PM

For anyone who cares, the new oil filters are now made by Filtech.

dom93hatch 10-12-2004 08:34 PM

My dealership sells the FRAM made ones, so I just bought a FRAM filter from Pep Boys. I wonder if Pep Boys sells Filtech too, because I could most likely get them cheaper than at the dealer.

I can't find K&N filters anywhere

The Honda FRAM filters worked pretty well on my car, so I thought I'd just get a FRAM right from Pepboys. Same shizzle. I can't find k&n filters though :happysad:

FRAM filters make the baby Jesus cry

clickwir 10-12-2004 08:45 PM

I found a K&N at Advance Autoparts.

I've used FRAM double guard filters before with no problems. But I found the AcDelco ones were pretty well recommended, inexpensive and avaliable lots of places.

redgoober4life 10-12-2004 08:48 PM

I use purolator :)

LT 10-12-2004 09:21 PM

higher oil pressure will protect the motor during constant up/down-shifts (racing on a course) which cause spikes and plunges in oil pressure. higher oil pressure will prevent spun bearings.

TheOtherDave™ 10-13-2004 08:20 AM

Run the hell away from the FRAM filters.
They have become so cheaply built it's disgusting.
Cardboard end caps, cellulose filter media and a PLASTIC relief valve :eek3:

Ever since I read the NTPOG article on oil filter construction, I've been using Hastings & Wix filters. It's clear that both Hastings & Wix filters have done a much better job than the FRAM filters.

After what NTPOG had to say about the FRAM line, I wouldn't run a FRAM filter on a lawnmower. :a:

Kragen carries k&n oil filters :)

reno96teg 10-13-2004 09:26 AM

i use walmart SuperTech filters. why? they're made by champion laboraties (same guys that make the Bosch, Champion, STP, Mobil 1, etc.)

basically i get a Mobil 1 filter, or close enough, for a third of the price.
