car shocking?

Default car shocking?

why does my car shock me everytime i get out and touch the door to close it (or touch some other outside part of the car) after driving?

it does it everytime and seems to have gotten worse this past month.









it hurts sometimes tooh:

Mine too . And everytime I touch the light switch, the thing is plastic for christsakes :upset:.

Obviously, it's static electricity...but I think it builds up from the friction of traveling rapidly through air, which gets worse this time of year because of the dry winter air. The same thing happens with airliners, but they have little dealies that dissipate the charge so a passenger exiting the plane doesn't get zapped. Or something like that, anyway.

It's winter time and the humidity in the air is less. Less humidity means you'll have more static electricity.

Ummm you are sort of right. It's from your butt moving on the seat and the rubber of the tires rolling over the ground (like rubbing a balloon on your shirt).

But as the winter months come around the air gets drier and drier, which static electricity loves! I actually hold my key and touch the door as I'm opening it, or use my elbow to close/open the door.

You can also buy a grounding strap that dangles under your car and discharges any residual charge before you tough your door.
