you know these are great for people who are older and have really shitty knees or bad joints, etc. but for able-bodied people, use your feet.

I don't really see it as a lazy person's transportation. I mean, if that were the case then you could say the same thing about a bike or moped. It's just something in between. In addition, it introduces an innovative way to use technology and possibly a stepping stone to greater things.
