Default help with computer please

my computer wont go onto the internet. i check the network connections window thingy and all it is doing is sending packets, not receiving. what do i do?

i'm on my laptop.. i have to unplug and replug the ethernet wire everytime i switch between comps

Not recieving packets? Do simple things like disabling and re-enabling the LAN connection. See if that resolves. Since it's XP, you can always remove the NIC from the device mangler and reboot to reinstall ...

you dont have any firewall software on that's blocking everything, do you? I dont think they'd block even port 80 for http traffic.

tried disabling and enabling 8329743829473872493 times

will i need the cd that came with the nic after i reboot the comp?

depends if it's one of those NIC's who's driver was around before XP. Go ahead - you can't break it more than it already is. If you have to download a driver for it ... you have your laptop.

and everytime i disable and enable again, my ip address is set to 0.0.0.... is that normal?

start --> run --> cmd <enter>

ipconfig /renew
