Default Mountain bikers?

Are any of you guys mountian bikers? I need advice on clipless pedals...right now I have Time Atac's but they suck when I don't have my cycling shoes on. I'm looking at Shimano M545 (the ones with the big metal cage around it) and I was just seeing if anybody has experience with these pedals and if they're easier to ride without the cycling shoes.

Time Atac's are excellent pedals...when your wearing riding shoes. If you want some pedals to use without riding shoes, a set of BMX flats are great. If you want a set of clipless pedals, and wanna use them without the riding shoes, M545's are decent. Obviosly clipless pedals were designed to be used with shoes, and flats for regular shoes.

I dunno...what kind of riding to you do? XC? Freeride? DH?

I've done XC mostly and I'm starting into some DH (on an XC bike of course ) Mainly the reason I'm looking at the M545 pedals is because I ride my bike to school, and I want to be able to just wear normal shoes. I'd use my cycling shoes whenever I go on a trail, so the pedels aren't really an issue then.

Just get a set of BMX flats for riding to school. Then, when you rids XC or whatever, slap your Atac's on. Flats should be like $15.
