That friend of yours is showing maturity and restraint, or so it seems. You should try to embrace those qualities yourself.

wow guys, lets make fun of people's english, thats so cool.
A rich school doesnt mean that everyone has to learn good grammar. It's a public school so the students dont pay for tution it just comes from the tax payer's pocket. So not all of the students are the brightest.
Anyways, getting back on subject. So do you think my friend should get the Benz or the civic?

That said, I stick with my original position. He's a noob driver, it will be HIS CHOICE because it is HIS CAR and HIS LIFE.
I see a lot of merit to his decision, and I know I'd much rather have a solidly built, nicely tuned, reliable Honda over a Benz that has been marginalized and built down to a price.
The statistics do show a greater number of warranty claims on the C230 Hatch than on an EP3 Si or an EX coupe.

Now if this kid was really smart... (this is what i would do)
take the benz hatch, sell it, then buy 2 civics...one as a daily driver, and one mean ass race hybrid.

I don't really like the C hatchback. It's cheap looking, especially the interior. Actually I sat in a C230 Kompressor sedan and it felt pretty cheap too. However driving it might make up for a bit of the cheapness with mechanical soul, and it sure is a pretty car.
Your buddy should at least get a new car if his parents are offering, not some piece of junk that he has to build up. That would be pretty stupid. I would think he was mature and wise if he said to his parents,
"Ya know mom and dad, this here Honda Civic Si is much more reliable than the Mercedes and it's a lot cheaper too. On top of that it gets better gas mileage and will cost less to insure. I appreciate that you want to buy me a Mercedes but if you don't mind I'll take the Honda."
Problem is I don't think that's what he's saying, is he?
