Default Decent car for under $1000?

Buddy and I want to buy a car to tinker around with this winter. Thinking of buying a $1000 car. What's good? old 240sx? ancient mr2? pulsar?

We already each have Corollas that are destined for engine swaps this summer.

i saw a high mileage 91( i think) 240sx for $900 in the autotrader for my area...that would be a good base, and you can get good power outta it after an sr20det swap and you build the turbo...

We had an 87 Dodge Ram beater truck to do that with. Took down construction signs, construction barrels, green plastic trash cans, a fence. Blew the transmission in it (it was a slushamatic) and sold it to salvage yard for $300. Lotsa fun.

Old car for under $1000? Ever thought of going off the beaten path and picking up a mid-80s Volvo 240? Built like a tank, and can put a tough turbo in it too. Perfect sleeper. Nobody would suspect a thing.
