Default electrical problem with my toyota.....helpie

h:

ok. i really dont want to take it to the shop because i bet its a simple fix that they will charge me a load on.

so my brother drives the car and he recently got a fix-it ticket because the lic plate bulbs went out. i realized the plug came undo, so i did a quick splice and it was fixed.

but at the same time i also realized that his brake light doesnt work. here is what goes on. below is the pic of the rear lamps. the numbers indicate where there is a light bulb that shines red when on due to the reflector.

when i turn the head lights on: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 goes on.

when i hit the brakes: #1 gets brighter, while #2 dims. 3 - 4 stays the same. 5 - 6 never does anything.

and 7 - 8 never comes on. but i couldnt find a bulb behind the reflector, so i dont know if it is suppose to come on.

 i havent gotten a chance to check much yet.

thanks. also, if you guy know some corolla or toyota boards.....holla.

hmmm....try switching bulbs with 1, 2.

5, 6 is the brake light correct? take a 'test light' and have someone step on the brakes and see if there is any power running to it.

Run 2 relay's off the working light, one for dim, one for high, and just splice the harnesses on the other non working lights. That is after you test the bulbs to make sure they're all in working order and not in backwards.
