Why the cap change?

Is there a rhyme and reason to it at all?

because then they can sell the higher rate for more money which costs them the same money.

in canada they don't cap it. there was a big controversy and a law suit.

my friend in canada has 5-6mb download and 1mb upload

Well I'm sure they'd love to offer a 5k upload cap if they could. There is a minimum upload that you have to have to be able to download at a certian speed.

It's the "laws of bandwidth". You have to have a certian amount of upload in order to have certian amount of download.

Example (I'm not using real numbers). I you want to download at 2mB/sec, you need to have at least a 200kB/sec upload. If you were to increase the download to 3mB/sec, it wouldn't work unless the upload is also increased via the d/u ratio.

spanky... you work for the XBL tech lines?!

Hook me up wid a year subscription, y0!

I switched to month by month until I got a new job to pay for the full year. I have like 50 bucks credit at Gamestop, so I'm debating on a new XBL subscription card, or reserving Halo 2.

I just took a test on my Cable.

2003-12-28 00:43:51 EST: 2766 / 365
Your download speed : 2766906 bps, or 2766 kbps.
A 337.7 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 365697 bps, or 365 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

That's about my standard. I need a new router, though. Right now I'm running without a router, so when I go on Live I have to go through the router.

The thing cuts my broadband off completely, or down to almost nothing. Anyone know a good router that doesn't cut off?
