iirc, gas caps are supposed to allow air into the gas tank, but not out of the gas tank.

i dont think that air is getting into my gas tank when the cap is on... when i remove my gas cap, there is a sudden surge of air going into the tank. it sounds like opening a soda bottle that was just shaken up.

do you guys think i should get my gas cap replaced? would this low pressure in the gas tank affect my fuel system at all?

 

I've never heard of it putting air in your tank. To me it would make sense that it wouldn't as to keep pressure in the fuel tank.

the air isn't going into your tank, its leaving.


Your gas tank gets a little pressurized. Its supposed to, its normal.

i often wonder about that, if i just let the gas cap go pshhhhhh. and then tighten it back up, will i need to really gas up? cause the pressure will level off and then the gas goes back up?

 

i always thought the gas cap would/should be air tight.

 

Doesnt it say to let pressure out of the tank before removing the gas cap on the gas cap?... :dunno:
