Default Acceleration question

So the other day I took my car out to get the dust off her and open her up a bit and something struck me as odd.

Why is it when entering a freeway I can top out at 100mph in 3rd (almost redline) yet on the track I am shifting much lower speeds and hitting the redline mark?

Has anyone else noticed this in their cars?

might deal with tire spin? The revs get higher faster when at the track due to loss of traction? :dunno:

Maybe but at the track I am on slicks so once I launch its pretty tough for me to spin...yet my end time is around 96mph.

Now an onramp I get up to 100 and the onramp I did this on was less than a 1/4 mile

maybe the car is making more power because it's colder? I know I could feel a little something something when I drove the M coupe last week. it was around 48F :happysad:

onramps? really? in CA onramps are uphill. off ramps are downhill but I would never be accelerating at full throttle getting off the freeway.

But that still doesn't account for the RPM range and being able to do 100MPH in 3rd and just coming close to redline as opposed to actually hitting it.

You see what I am getting at here?

Its not so much the 100mph but the redline too.

Yeah here in Oregon most our onramps are downhill.
