"PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
The first set we got to visit was a intricate set of tunnels which were supposed to be situated underneath the theatre, they were still being constructed, although most of the work had been completed, the final touches were hastily being applied as shooting was to commence on Friday 5th December, this is pretty much were reality set in! I mean there's me and my mate Shaun, stood on a set, at Pinewood bloody Studio's gawping at a underground cavern and a complete tunnel system that was gonna be in one of next year's biggest films! The detail was amazing, I got to see two huge statues that were going to be used at the entrance of the cavern all constructed out of polysterene but appeared to be solid stone, complete with growing moss and water stains. The next set we got to visit was of a ballroom! Complete with black and white marbled floor and the most beautiful gold staircase I have ever seen, hang on a mo I aint seen any gold staircases before so anyway it was jaw dropping, the extra's were still on set all dressed in amazing ball gowns complete with white wigs and masks, vast red velvet drapes graced the walls, the site was simply breathe taking.
After a couple of minutes I managed to pick my tongue up off the floor, when Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber himself walked passed, our guide was very quick to introduce us to the man himself! There went the tongue again smack bang straight to the bloody floor, tongue tied was not the word, as I feebly attempted a simple, "HELLO". I was well shocked not only because there I was shaking the hand of the guy that wrote CATS and Starlight Express, but also because the guy was looking really good, I mean he had lost loads of weight and looked like he had been hitting the gym in a successful attempt to change himself from the fat (guy) that he used to be. After the ballroom set we were escorted to the theatre set, it was being revamped at that point, the next scenes to be shot here were after the theatre had been gutted by fire! It was and time had taken its toll, all the gold gilding had been blackened, leaves and dust littered the velvet chairs of the auditorium, the huge velvet curtains that hung on the stage had been aged with cobwebs and dust, it was simply eerie, just looking at this amazing set sent goose bumps all over my body, a real musty smell of damp tickled my nostrils as my brain digested the eye candy before me. Breathtaking
The last point of call was to see the chandeliers that were going to be used for the scene where one crashes to the stage, 3 had been made for the scene, 2 at £100,000 dollars each and one that was simply going to be trashed for that scene simply made out of glass, they were made by the company that makes those little crystal paper weights of disgustingly cute animals that seemed to be a big craze a few years ago, bloody awful if you ask me, but the chandeliers before me were simply a work of art! And that was pretty much the stem of the PHANTOM production, although we did get to see more of the extras in their outlandish and simply brilliant costumes kind of looking out of place as they stuffed there faces with burgers and chips!"
