as for lenses.. I'm going to go out on a limp and assume that the two lenses you posted about isn't going to cut it for bike/car race pics.

I'll be the fstop is only 5.6 at the 300mm end.

Honestly I've talked to my friend who takes a crap load of car pics ( www.sportscarimage.com ) and with his D100 he'll shoot about a GB or so in a full day at the track.

Unless the shots are setup before hand it's very difficult to get the right shot.

but that doesn't mean it can't be done, it does mean that the picture quality will suffer

just my 2 cents

for most autox events he uses a 70-200mm f 2.8 lens while for track days he uses 100-300mm f2.8 lens.

Well the price for a fixed ap lense really isn't a concern since I will be building up to that over time.

Basically I need a camera and a few good lenses to get started with and grow with.

I know there is newer technology out there but I am noticing its just gadgets at this point and nothing seems to beat a good analog SLR for outright quality.

It just has that certain feel and texture to it you will never get out of a digi source.

very true. I've also decided to buy the cheap lenses until I have money coming out of my butt or when my stock options become worth something, then i'll invest in a nice set of quality lenses.

I chose digital format, because I'm lazy and I don't want to develope film :happysad:

Bah you can find solid lenses at good prices if you look hard through the used listings on B&H. I'm impatient.

Well I am registered up on there and it looks like they have some pretty sweet prices all around as well as a great selection and rating of used equipment...I may just be doing some business with them after all.

Thanks for the reference Mike
