i had a problem like that with pep boys....i had a severe oil leak and i payed for and replaced 5 parts before they got it right. But then i got the 5 parts that didnt need to be replaced for free because i threatened law suit if they didnt refund the money for the parts AND the labor. these parts were not cheap....like 500 bucks all together plus like another 300 in labor. as it turned out the part that was bad was like a 12 dollar part. after i got the money back i told the manager to go fvck himself and that i would be telling everyone i ever met about how terrible Pep boys is.

Well, I nagged him mercilessly for the entire hour we were waiting for the towtruck driver (who, ironically, was the same one from that morning) and then made him discuss the finer points of Bob the Builder with my son. The funny thing is that even though my car is one problem after another, that is actually the first time I've ever been left on the side of the road and it was caused by an outside influence, it wasn't the car's fault at all.

I worked there for a couple of years as a service writer... I've seen some shady things as well as done some shady things, it's not just pep boys, it all depends who actually works on your car. I still get work done at pep boys, but since I know the mechanics personally, I just have them do the work.

one of my buds went to jiffy lube to get her oil changed & they cross-threaded the oil filter & all the oil drained outta it & it blew up

she took 'em to court & they had to pay for a brand new motor (old one had ~200k miles), a rental car for the time w/out her car & her lawyer's expenses

The PepBoys in Frederick are notoriously bad. I've heard of them mismounting tires and wheels, stripping every thread you possibly could, installing things backwards, you name it. I had a friend working in the one up 355 at Milestone in Germantown, and he quit and took a job at a Honda dealership doing the same work, but with people who actually cared what they were doing, and knew how to do it.
