Default Virus Question

So my computer crashed about a month ago and it took me forever to get it runnng again. Finally I pulled one of the sticks of RAM and it all worked fine. RMA'd the RAM and got the new stick a few days ago. Put it in Bank 3 for dual channel (Asus A7N8X Deluxe) and the same problems persisted. At startup it said that Norton picked up on a virus. Switched the ram to bank two and no problems. I think that my bank 3 is bad. Is there anyway to fix this or should I RMA? Thanks

have you tried other sticks in the bank 3? if so, and it's no good, it'd be the mobo.

yeah, I tried the new stick I got through RMA and it brings up the virus found prompt. So Bank 3 is toast?

If bank3 is bad, it's motherboard replacement time.

Nope, just when memory was in bank 3. I mean nothing was working when I was reformatting. Then on a hunch I finally played iwth the ram and it magically worked. Same issues occured with new ram in Bank 3.

Well, guess it is time to claim my old pc off waivers and use that while I RMA the mobo

this new stick is the only ram you have? i'm not understanding your setup. putting ram in bank 3 would mean you already have ram in bank 1 and 2. do you have ram there?

Sorry, let me clear it up.
Originally, I was running 2x512 PC2100 in banks 1 and 3 for dual channel. Problems started to occur and after banging my head against the desk, I took out the RAM in bank 3 and all worked properly.

RMA'd said RAM and tried to reinstall in Bank 3 (So a Stick in 1 and 3). Problems occured again. Took RAM from Bank 3 and put it in Bank 2 (RAM in banks 1 and 2) and all works fine.

So if the ram is in bank 1 and 2, you have 1gb of ram and it works. But you don't have the speed of dual channel?
