Question for computer gurus.
aphex: please re-read my post. I said to try and minimize the times its turned on/off that means keep it on most of the time. I said its worst than leaving the comp 24/7. Read carefully before u bitch.
When you say the monitor fails to turn on, it won't display anything right away or the computer will fully boot and make noises just with no display? I have an relatively new 19" NEC and it will power down after 20 minutes or so and sometimes take a few seconds to come back online.
I was watching some TechTV show one time and the guy said he had to boot the computer, power it down and then boot it again to get it to actually POST and boot. They said if the PS is too weak it will try, get everything started and run out of juice and fail. The second try, the harddrives are already started, everything already has a littel juice left it and it will get going. Might be your issue? A faulty/failing PS could also cause random lockups and crashes.

First off. When asking for help, never say "I know it's not xxxxx." You obvisiouly didn't solve the problem yet or provide proof that you and prove that it's not that, so you don't really know.

3rd, don't use the power strip to power off. Use the button on the computer and the monitor seperatly. I won't go into great detail.... just don't use that anymore.

4th. Get another monitor. I don't care how you do it, get another one. See if that fixes the problem of the monitor not turning on right. Sometimes you just don't know untill you try.

Thanks for the input...it is appreciated. I'm still kind of thinking that the monitor and power supply need to be replaced.
