Default Question for the car paint people!

Well my car as you know is wrecked...and i had it painted about two years ago a pearl white. The guy who painted it said it was a 3 stage paint and so he charged me 2500. Well i at the time didnt know anybetter so i said okay thats fair. So basically what he did was paint the car white again, then when he did the clear, he mixed in the pearl powder and then painted with the clear. I thought that was fine and thought thats how u do it. After talking with my friend who's talking auto painting at our CC, he said thats only a single stage paint, and that pearl is three stages, 1 coat is base coat, 2nd coat is pearl, and 3rd is clear. So basically i think the guy ripped me off. does anyone know if this is true? i plan to go back and complain to the guy, my parents already went and complained to him after the adjuster came becaue he said the paint was done wrong and that alot of the ruber seals were oversprayed. So i think if i'm right and he ripped me off, i can go complain to him and have him hook me up and repaint my new accord when the new paint starts to **** up (MAACO) what do you guys think?

No, my 4gen was painted with this guy at his shop. it came out nice and all but not what i paid for basically, so he ripped me off. My new 5gen, the ladie 1st owner had it painted at MAACO, so i'm sure the paint will **** up eventaully sooner then my 4gen so i want him to give me a discount since he screwed me over with the 1st paint job. No pearl this time though, maybe just frost white, or championship white. but what i wanna know is if he really did screw me over with a single stage paint?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that’s how things work.

You may be dealing with a statute of limitations as well. Two years is along time to wait after the job has been completed and paid for. You would have been better off complaining the minute you saw the car.
Also if you were so dissatisfied with him the first time, why would you go back? Just curious??

I was not dissatisfied with his work, i loved the car, what i'm saying is that he ripped me off because he charged me a 3 stage paint instead of a single stage, if i'm correct. The reason i didnt go complain to him before was that i never knew it was wrong, untill i spoke to my friend recently after my car got wrecked, and after speaking to the inspector about the paint.

Puffy, yea well my dad already went over there and complained to him, and the guy got a lil mad but said he was gonna hook my dad up with a wax for our van, which means that if i go there myself and tell him about how he ripped me off he will probably be willing to work something out. i just wanna make sure that he did actaully rip me off so that i have reason com complain. the guy is reasonable, and i'm not trying to be an asshole, but if he did infact rip me off then i want to be credited or have him discount on a new paint job.

well, he did get over on you a bit. He charged you for a triple stage paint job but only did a 2 stage paint job. If it were single stage, the color, clear and pearl would have been all in one. But yeah, hit him up and see if he'll hook it up on the 5th gen, de did do a good job on Mariah, she was smooth as a baby's bottom

why would you go back and deal with a guy that has previously ripped you off. that sounds counterintuitive and stupid.

Single stage= acrilic (sp?) enamel No clear
Two stage= Base coat and clear coat
Three stage= My car is this (base coat of silver, second coat of fusion orange, clear) the first base coat is what sets the hugh/color of the final job. Like if I used gold and not silver it would have been a darker orange.
