Default dvd8

i've been reading about different types of dvdr media on different websites and some of them say that there will be hardware/media coming out [avail for the general public] that has 8.4 gigs of space. do any of you guys know anything more specific about this, or when its coming out?

btw, don't u mean DVD9 instead? :dunno:

DVD-9
DVD-9 is a single sided dual layer DVD which can fit up to 8.5 GB or 7.95 computer GB which many commercial video DVDs are using today (a DVD-9 is basicly two pressed plastic DVD-5s pressed together, they are not burned). Video DVD supports this format but DVD-R/W and DVD+R/W does not support this format.

oooh. i thought that dvd9 meant that it stores 9,x gb. I guess i misunderstood. But i do remember that they were saying that there will be consumer-level hardware available to burn 8.x gb worth of data on dvdr's.
