If i were you i'd go with the canon, u can use normal AA batteries, and its a bit smaller and lighter, other then that they are the same thing spec wise, but i'd trust a canon better then a sony.

it's not necessarily a good thing to use regular batteries. if you use the flash, the battery dies very quickly.
when compared to Li-ions.
but I would choose Canon between the two as well.

the p72 is more of a point and shoot. there are no manual adjustments for the shutter and f-stops. you only can adjust white balance. and i really really dont like the body of the cheaper sony cameras. they dont fit hands too well.
the a70 is a way better camera. it offers more adjustments. and the body fits my hand pretty good.
