Highway fun!
So I was cruising down the highway, and my transmission goes. It only works in fourth gear, all the others rev like it's in neutral.hnoes:
Not a good day for me.

Second gen transmissions are usually pretty stong, I have no idea what happened to this one. The trans in my last one ground to hell, but it ran for thousands of miles with those grinds and still worked when I sold it. This one has been absolutely smooth though, and just started whining/squeeking a few days ago.:dunno: The entire car (body, engine, and trans) has a touch over 131k.

The input gear that drives the countershaft has stripped.
4th is the only gear that does not use the countershaft. It is straight through.
Usually you get some warning as the teeth start to go. It starts as a tick with each turn if the engine.
Check the FSM link in my sig below & look in the transmission section.
There are some good illustrations of what goes on inside.
If you're lucky, it's rebuildable.

I don't have an actual printed FSM, but I have the full scan in .PDF form on my computer. They are availible on the FC3S.org website for free downloading.
