and a new cpu: athlon XP 2500+ Barton - $85

and the shipping was free :booty:

my mother has commisioned me to build her a new computer so im giving her my current cpu and memory and upgrading while im at it. so shes gonna have an athlon 1700+ with 512 megs of ram and a 40 gig maxtor drive with a kickass cdrw, all with a slick looking case, LCD, and flat panel speakers.

got her a 17" LCD from officemax for $229 on thursday that should be coming soon. im having fun putting this thing together.

heres the monitor

and the speakers are the old Benwin set. they were actually the first flat panels ever sold for computers, and cost me $120 back in the day.

edit: i also went out to walmart on black friday and got her this

printer/scanner/copier for $68

I was always scared that if I build the computer I wouldn't be able to get her up and going so I just said hello to Dell.

coulda gotten the barton chip cheaper, I think. Or maybe it was on sale when I got it.
In any case. My case > that one :P and it was cheaper. It's a XaserIII copy. without the fans, and the front plate. But it's innards are nice. screwless card slots, screwless drive slots, seven fan vents, dual openings on the front, one for access, one for removal of the drives. even has a top vent with a popup firwire, headphone, mic, and two usb ports. I don't think my mobo supports the stuff on top, though not like I use any of it anyway.
