Default Anyone do any welding?

I am looking into getting a MIG welder for some fabrication for my Jeep (and friends rigs too).

I have done some ARC welding and was pretty fair at it..nothing great but it worked and you can only get beeter right?

Anyways I am looking at doing mostly steel but I am also looking at doing some aluminum work eventually as well.

Anyone know any good versatile MIG welders or at least what I should look at when pricing and deciding?

if you just want something for minor/light welding jobs, like you arent buidling an entire tube frame, I suggest either a light duty miller or lincoln....I recommend the Lincoln Electric SP - 135T

Well I actually want something that will be able to do large cages, bumpers, and frame work...incline ramps as well.

Why not just get a tig welder? you can use it on a lot of different stuff. My manager at the bike shop i was working at was gonna get either a tig or a mig and ended up getting a tig. Do you plan to use the welder alot?

I'd like to make a roof-rack, custom bumpers...it'd be nice if it was small and portable too, So it could be used off-road in case of emergency.

My cousin is a journeyman welder. And she's also a graphic designer, a textiles designer, an accountant, and currently she is a chef. This doesn't help you at all.
