Wireless LAN Wifi questions
as yall know i work in the wireless department at best buy. i had a few customers ask me about the wifi pdas we have. and i wasn't really able to give them a straight answer. how fast is wifi? how's the battery life on pdas when u use wifi?
i know u gotta subscribe to hot spot with t mobile to use it. is there anything else i should know about wifi?

it's same as the standard they support
802.11a/b/g
b - 11mb/s
a - 54mb/s
g - supports both
so if they have a pda with pcmcia slot they can buy a wifi nic and it will do the speed according to the standard

to actually answer some of your questions. speed depends on which version. .11a is 54Mbps, .11b is 11Mbps, .11g is 54Mbps (compatible with .11a and .11b).
you don't HAVE to subscribe to use it. if you have a wireless router at home you can use it. and there's a food court by my work that supplies a hotspot for free.
i believe battery life shouldn't be too bad compared to something not using wireless, but that depends on signal strength and how much you transfer.

now if a customer buys that SD wifi card, and plug it into their Motorola MPX200 cellphone, would they be able to use it? provide that they have the right software.

it's not guaranteed to work. in fact chances are that it wont work. I doubt whatever OS the cellphone is running has the right driver for the SD wifi card.

No. If they plug the SD wireless card in they will have wireless connectivity to wireless ap's offering 802.11a/b/g and nothing more.
Now if the PDA had a pcmcia slot you'd be able to stick in a cellular modem and subscribe to a wireless data service such as TMobile's $30/month for unlimited usasge (not sure if they still offer it). So if you subscribed to the plan and bought the pcmcia card for either your laptop or pda you'd have wireless internet anywhere
