Default Drifting is fun, yet SCARY!

My friend took some lessons or something and he can "drift" now. I dunno anything about drifting so I can't judge his skill but it was enough to scare me. Was a 330i.

He drifted through a plaza long u shaped turn (imagine a 'U') that had cars and stores on both sides. Not the smartest thing to do but he had confidence I guess. It was at night and at least he checked to make sure no one was nearby. It was in the rain too.

Then he went nuts in the back parking lot.

its fun, but a lap around a track drifting will eat up a set of tires pretty quick :happysad:

I've done it in the rain once in the middle of my cult-de-sac. Very fun, but those few moments when you're not 100% sure that car will do what you want it to do are very scary.

Is drifting that hard to learn how to do? It seems like it would be? I would just practice in the rain first I think.
