I like haveing as little contact with the person as possible. Contact usually means delays. I want to bid, win, pay, and have it shipped. I don't want a lot of BS.
You can't stop flakes from bidding if its an open auction

and I support the idea of trying to keep people honest on ebay... it's tough. I've been had.

But I think it would be better if it just didn't accept bids based on feedback or something... instead of me having to email them. I feel like I have to prove myself to them or social engineer my way to being able to bid.

So I got an email back from the guy.... looks like a prepared message, makes no mention of the ebay preapproved list I asked about... but instead mentions that I can just buy em from him for like $35+sh.

Should I? It's outside ebay, but for something that's not listed on ebay. So it's not like it's an outside deal for something that's currently listed. What are my chances that things will go smoothly?

Thats the best price I've seen so far. Except for other ebay auctions, but those are never consistant.
