I have heard of to much grip breaking differentials but not with a stock motor and stock axles. The axles would break way before the tranny unless you are running Driveshaft shop axles

Something having to do with the launch killed the gearbox. I'm not convinced it was the tires though. Azenis are nowhere near as sticky as slicks (granted the sidewall is not as flexible) but I don't think they'd be harder on the driveline than some slicks.

Anyway the Azenis are a good dry-oriented performance tire. There are better tires in the wet but basically nothing this side of the BFGoodrich g-Force KD will touch it in the dry. If you want something that is more balanced with both dry and wet traction I would look at the Kumho MX.

Ive had mine on for a good 18k miles. Im heavy rain, its not as bad as people make it seem. Given i am a little more careful than i would be in the dry, but they work great in both condidtions for me.
And as for the width conversation, I have the 225/45/17's and I've measured them, they are acually more like 231/45/17.

They are not bad in the rain from what all the other owners tell me.

I measured my new 245/45/17 and compared to my toyo t1-s 255/401/7

the 245/45/17 was wider by good 5mm.

also a local autox guru told me the 225/45/17 were wider than his Micheline pilot sports 235/45/17.

super

There are plenty of summer tires that are also geared towards providing better-than-good wet traction:

Toyo T1-S, Bridgestone S-03, Kumho MX, Dunlop SP9000, Yoko AVS Sport, Pirelli PZero Nero, Goodyear F1 GS-D3, etc.

Okay and your point? I didn't say all h:

And when I say select few, I mean the top tires, such as S-03, T1-S and F1 GS-D3 and maybe the MX.

which are probably the top 1% of the best summer street tires h:
