What do YOU like about video games?
To the gamers and wanna be gamers... what is it that attracts you?
For me:
Storyline
Artwork
Gameplay
Escape out of reality for a little bit
Three lives.
Characters
Being something you're not.
Doing something you can't do in real life
Good let out of frustration. (GTA)

For RPG, the story and the character development is the most important. For example Final Fantasy 3, the graphics was very nice, but the characters was extremely well done with depth, and personality.
As for the other types of games it has to be fun, easy to play, but a challenge to learn, and graphics.

my favorite games are
secret of mana - first large scale game i evar played. music was cool, game play was top notch, story was great, graphics were good at the time
if i played ff7 before this i think i would like ff7 better
i think it was the scope that impressed me. it remains my favorite rpg to date
virtual on oratorio tangram msbs 5.6 - huge fighting robots !!
to me this game will always represent the future. if anyone remembers in robotech when max played miryia in that veritech simulator, chances are you thought that would be an awesome game. voot was the first game i played that damn near duplicated it. the graphics were best i had evar seen. still remains among the best games today
giant mechs with weapons - lasers, missiles, machine guns - and 3d fighting make this my favorite arcade fighting game
