Default WTH is X Box modding?

I see all these posts about it and I'm still clueless. I've got an X Box...I know you need to buy a chip and thats about it. What do you do with the chip? How do you download games onto the chip or hard drive? Any help guys? Thanks

Im sure it also allows you to play backups of games , so if you had a dvd-rw drive you could burn games and play them.

DO NOT BUY A CHIP!!!!

You can do it for nothing more than the cost of a harddrive and some time DLing the software.

My XBX is done with 100% software hacks and I am running a 160 gig drive in it. I am not going to say it is neccesarily easy but it is virtually free and no longer needs a chip set to be done.

I know a guy who does it and it usually takes about 4 hours or so including loading a crapload of games. The games store directly on the hard drive and load faster and play better than they do on disc based gaming.

You are also able to play emulators, video files such as Divx and .avi, you can stream shoutcast music broadcasts, Mirc downloads, ummmm.....basically its a small portable computer after modding.
