Default 1989 Toyota Corolla SR5

Every since I watched Initial D I wanted to give my try at building a nice AE86 but they seem to be rare to find. There is a 1985 GTS Trueno for sale locally for around $600 but the motor is needing replacement. My mailman stopped by earlier delivering my mail and asked about my s13 and why I sold it. He told me that he has a 1989 Toyota Corolla SR5 w/manual tranny that he would sell to me for "$50 and a bag of peanuts". lol. The motor he said is missing a few things and does not run but the body is perfect. Should I pick this up? Is this also a good platform for a vehicle to drift in? Also do you know of any good Toyota boards with AE86's etc?

Thanks

The parts are interchangeable between the two.

Main thing you will want to change is the rear to an LSD and the engine to the 1.6 DOHC, and relocate the battery to the passenger side rear seat.

Aside from the engine and rear end they are the same car.

A 1989 Corolla is not a ae86, it is a ae92. Also the sr5 makes it an ae85, the gts is ae86.
