Default need help choosing a car

ok right now im driving a crappy volvo and im sick of it, so im looking to pick up a new ride. my priorities are these:

cheap
good autoxer

im in no particular hurry to buy one. i wanna have it ready for next season though so maybe i can be competitive, so i can sorta take my time finding a good deal. im trying to spend no more than $1500 on the car so i can spend like $1000 on tires and whatnot. basically the cars im looking at now are these:

e30 325is
rx7
crx si

im open to suggestion here. what i want is a car that i can be competitive with in autox and will be cheap for me. does anyone know what classes these cars end up in? also, does anyone know what kind of rx7 i ought to be looking for? there are so many different trims im just confused. i dont mind having n/a or turbo.

edit: it needs to be semi practical here, so no miatas or mr2s

MR2 turbo is a pretty good cheap kickaround.

with only 1,500 to spend on the car itself, of the three options you listed I think you'll only be able to find a crx for that price.

CRX man, especially if you want to do mods down the road. Mods are cheap and easy to do on those cars.

You'd be lucky to get anything better then a series 4 N/A for under $1500. My '86 Sport was $900, from a relative. I have yet to see a Turbo II go for anything under $5k in my area.

Are you talking SA/FB's or FC's? There was no turbo model in the US until '87.

Yeah if you're looking for an RX-7 for that cheap then you should go with a non-turbo FC. It's more of a successful car in club road racing than autocrossing though. They run in E-stock against the non-turbo 2nd-gen MR2 and the MR2s own that class.
