40's have a smaller circumfrence...thus, less protection for the wheel. Also, it will mess up your odometer and speedometer because a smaller circumfrence = more rotations, thus making your odometer put on miles faster and it makes you *think* you're going faster than you actually are.

there's a few reasons, comfort, durability, accuracy of the speedo. Usually, 45's are less harsh than 40's, and if you hit that same bump w/45's instead of the 40's, the damage, if any at all, would be less severe.

thats one good thing about rotas. you can buy a new rim without breaking your wallet. it probably will cost you as much to repair it.

Go to Town Fair Tire and ask them about getting a rim fixed, they'll take it for a day, bring it to one of their affiliates and get it fixed for you for $70, just be glad you didn't pop your tire.
