Default Extending wireless internet connection.

My friend has his cable internet hooked to a wireless router 'cause he only has a laptop. But when he goes on the opposite site of the house, he can't get a connection.
He called asking me questions, but I'm not experienced in these matters. He said he has a wireless signal booster and a second wireless router/access point, and he tried hooking them up, but can't get a signal.
Anybody know a basic blueprint of how this would be setup? Can a wireless router be setup to get it's internet connection from another wireless router, rather than from a cable?

Yea, but that's going to be sloooooooow.

Tell him to get a high gain antenna for it. That alone could easily double the distance.

is that what a booster is? He told me he got something called a booster (I haven't seen it yet) and the saleman told him it should easily reach across even 2 houses.
But that antenna, wouldn't he need one on the router and one on the laptop? :eh:

Well if he can upgrade the antenna on the laptop, that would help even more.

Bootsers help... but structures and walls will take that boosted signal and drop it quickly. Yea if you're outside in a field, you could probably go 500 feet with a booster... inside is a diffrent thing though.

what kind of router and booster is it (i mean, who makes them)? and is it all around computer stuff? putting those things near electronics can reduce the signal. i have a wireless router and signal booster set up and i get get a "good" signal at least 100 feet away (although, it's through only a couple of walls).

get a pringles can and slit a hole in the bottom of it and slip it over the stock antenna. it will boost it a LOT.
