Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage - serious business.
I havent posted much lately due to my intense work schedule, but I hope all is well with all my friends here on HAN. I had a gastrointestinal hemorrhage that led to a sudden drop in blood pressure and dehydration. I took a trip to the emergency room and stayed at the hospital for a couple days, but now I'm fine. What an eye opener. Take care guys/gals.

Most likely the NSAID (Naprosin) i was prescribed two weeks prior. I've always taken ibuprofen/aleve with food knowing full well the consequences of taking them on an empty stomach, so who knows. Probably the added stress of work. I've taken time off work, since I cant stand up without getting lightheaded.

haha thanks guys. no real backstory. i wasnt feeling well and noticed my bowel movements were black and dry. fast forward 12 hours of sleep and a few more bowel movements of the same strange substance. i thought it was something I might have eaten or something that happened the day before. i felt the urge to vomit and started to dry heave. then as i stood up from the toilet i got lightheaded and put my hands on the bathroom sink/counter. i couldnt even support my weight and went to crouch on the floor. pretty much caught myself in a faint. i went to lie down on the bed. luckily bekah was at the apartment at that exact moment because she took my blood pressure and o2 stat and found they were alarmingly low. she wanted to call 911 but i said "okay" to drive me to the ER.
when we got to the ER, i got out of the car and immediately felt light headed and went to lean against a nearby wall. same thing happened in the bathroom, i couldnt even stand again, so i went to crouch. at that point bekah went to run to the ER to get someone to wheel me in. I remember sitting in the chair and the guy pushing me going too damn fast, but then everything went black. i woke up a minute later to the room spinning and people yelling at me asking me what my name was and where i was at. apparently i went into hypovolemic shock (sudden loss of blood) and lost consciousness.
skip 18 hours later and a bunch of saline bags to combat the dehydration, and i was given an endoscopy exam where they go down your throat to inspect your stomach. they found ulcers and erosion of the stomach lining and used titanium clips to close the holes up. i stayed a couple days more at the hospital getting blood tests every few hours to see if my numbers were improving or stabilizing.
skip to now, and its just me taking time off work and taking it easy as getting up too quickly easily makes me lightheaded. its so strange being forced to do nothing but stay at home when i'm so used to working and being productive around the apartment or doing something with the cars.

Agreed. I hope they took you off Naprosin and on something a bit gentler. :eek3:
